The good: - The acting of everyone in the cast. - Jeffrey Jones really looked like Joseph II. - The set and costumes. - The seemingly distressed priests loitering in the antechamber. A nice touch. The Emperor intensely disliked clergy, and passed hundreds of edicts to curtail their power and nationalise the Church's possessions. The goofs: - Joseph II was a competent musician, like all Habsburgs used to be until then (their talents and overall IQ sharply declined after the death of Leopold II). Joseph would have had no problem sight reading that piece without any mistakes. - There's no way Mozart would mistake van Swieten for the Emperor. The Emperor's face was on every coin. - Van Swieten's costume is anachronistic. He's wearing 1750s fashion in the 1780s. Perhaps it was a deliberate choice to convey the real van Swieten's conservative character, views and taste, but not even he would have worn such outdated clothes and wig in the presence of the Emperor. - Van Siweten is shown wearing a military decoration around his neck (the Order of Maria Theresia). Van Swieten never served in the military. - Baron Strack's bald head. Wearing a wig was mandatory at the Imperial court. - The problem with the Abduction from the Seraglio was not that it was considered indecent. There was a conflict brewing between the Austrians and the Ottomans. The two empires ultimately went to war, 6 years after this scene took place. - Mozart had no problem with Italian operas; he wrote more than a dozen of them. - Director Giuseppe Bonno (the fat dude) wouldn't have had an Italian accent. He grew up in Vienna. By the way, he was a highly talented composer.

been a long while since ive seen this but WTF didnt she "apply" the poison in a different room? why did she risk being caught in the SAME ROOM right in FRONT (well, her back was turned for that moment) of the very child shes doing this to? hidden camera aside (assuming) the food is prepared in a different room (or if it was a single room apartment or the like, all apologies) so why not just poison it from there? or is she just a forgetful ¢unt? who has grown careless over time? ignoring and/or rushing the steps in her ritual? or shut-up plot device?
